Most importantly, we are asking anyone who has unwanted balls of wool to bring them along as we will be donating them to the Kaiso Women’s Group in Uganda who have recently learned to knit thanks to donated balls of wool and are creating their own pieces to sell. Check out the photo’s. . . amazing stuff!

Here is an excerpt from an email which wil tell you a little about what the women do.

Dear Karen,> Greetings from Kaiso women's group, they all send their gratitude for all your> support wards their project. Through their leader they told me to let you know> that your contribution has helped to unite them more to work together to fight> poverty through sharing experience and ideas especially for those who are> infected with HIV/AIDS. I delivered the bag with books, yarns and the> clothings.The book on embroidery was given to their teacher of weaving, the> other three books put in a nursery school owned by one of the members the> small clothing given to children who attended that days meeting and the two> trousers have been reserved by the team to use during drama.(when they act in> community teaching about HIV/AIDS).Knitting will be done at each ones home and> collect together on Sundays for training and review. All finished blankets,> socks or cups will be delivered to the shop in hoima by team leader and at> maternity centre for display.> I will visit the team again third Sunday of June and update you.> Gerald.>

The “Hyperbolic Crochet Coral Reef” is a worldwide project that marries mathematics, marine biology, handicraft, community art practice and environmental consciousness-raising. People all over the world – from London and New York to Capetown – are collectively crocheting coral reefs.

Hyperbolic Crochet Coral Reef brings together the fate of an ecosystem on the brink of permanent destruction, and the feminine craft of crochet. A woolly testimony that celebrates the hyperbolic geometry of coral, Crochet Coral Reef also draws attention to how global warming and pollutants are threatening this fragile ecosystem.

The picture shown is a finished piece of crochet coral by Nadine  who spends Saturdays with us crocheting and knitting (crochet being her first love).
